Chemoprevention: Achievements and Future Perspectives

Cancer is the second deadliest disease in world with very high potential of prevention. The past few decades have witnessed an increased interest cancer chemoprevention among researchers, clinicians and public because a successful prevention strategy could save millions lives. This new paradigm has led to critical evaluation prospective chemopreventive agents including natural dietary agents, molecular targeted vaccines etc. preclinically clinically. Many were accorded status based on epidemiological studies that linked their consumption reduce risk. Despite demonstrated effectiveness preclinical animal model studies, safety long-term use remains major concern. Although more rigorous clinical trial protocols been developed assess candidates for chemoprevention, accrual, compliance, retention trials possess significant challenge volunteers such are healthy people risk developing cancer.
